After joining the club on the opening day of the 2013 January transfer window from MLS side Sporting Kansas City, Espinoza made his Latics debut in a stand-out performance against AFC Bournemouth at the Goldsands Stadium in the FA Cup third round replay.

Four days later he made his Barclays Premier League debut against Sunderland as a half time substitute, putting in another notable performance as Latics dominated the second half.

Another start in the FA Cup followed with a 1-0 win against Macclesfield Town in the fourth round, and then came his first Premier League start as he played an instrumental role as Latics came from 2-0 down against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium to draw 2-2.

As the 2012/13 campaign progressed so did Espinoza, scoring his first Latics' goal with a superb low volley at the DW Stadium against Swansea City before putting in another outstanding performance in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

The Honduran international midfielder played over 100 games for SKC before arriving at the DW Stadium and became a fan-favourite for his non-stop energy and committed performances.

Espinoza moved to the USA from Honduras when he was 12-years-old and started his football career as many do in the US by playing in college teams before eventually being picked in the 2008 MLS Superdraft by SKC.

His international career has so far been impressive with appearances in the 2010 FIFA World Cup alongside team mate Maynor Figueroa and former Latics midfielders Wilson Palacios and Hendry Thomas.

Last summer saw Espinoza wow the crowds in the United Kingdom when he represented Honduras four times in the 2012 Olympic Games, scoring against Brazil on his best performance of the tournament.
