Scott Carson joined Latics on a three-year deal in early July from Turkish side Bursapor ending a two-year UK exile
The England international played 29 times for the Turkish outfit but a return to England was too good an offer to turn down.
The former West Bromwich Albion, Liverpool and Leeds united 'keeper has bags of Premier League experience under his belt and is still keen to wear the England jersey again having been capped four times.
Carson's development as a goalkeeper came hand-in-hand with a massive 29 England Under 21 appearances during his time with Charlton Athletic, Aston Villa and West Brom.
He was another Owen Coyle signing with European experience, having played in the Champions League for Liverpool in their 2005 competition winning season as he helped the Reds progress to the semi-final in a victory over Juventus.
Carson's time outside of England after his move from the Baggies to Bursaspor saw him claim a runners-up medal in the Turkish Cup and in 2012/13 he helped his side to fourth in the Turkish Super League.
