James Perch signed for Latics on July 3 2013 becoming Owen Coyle's fourth signing for the club from Newcastle United.
He made his first appearance in blue and white in central defence against Columbus Crew 10 days after signing for the club.
The versatile defender who can also play in midfield has three years of Premier League experience at St James' Park and last season was involved in their Europa League campaign, playing in the competition eight times.
Perch played a total of 80 games for the Toon in all competitions and proved himself to be a dedicated, combatant and reliable member of their squad.
Before his move to the North East, Perch excelled at Nottingham Forest as he made his way through the youth ranks to the first team.
Coincidentally his made his professional debut against Latics at the then JJB Stadium in August 2004, with his first professional goal coming two months later against Doncaster Rovers.
Perch made a total of 222 appearances for Forest during his six years in the first team and in 2008 he helped the club to promotion to the Championship.
