The coveted Dutch full-back joined Latics in July 2010 after winning the Dutch Eredivisie title with FC Twente under former England manager Steve McLaren.
Stam was so impressive in that season that he also earned himself the club’s Player of the Season award. His glittering season at Twente ended with a call-up to the Dutch national side in July 2010 but he missed out due to an injury.
Stam made his Latics debut against Blackpool in August 2010 and went on to score his first goal for the club in January 2011, an equaliser to earn Latics a point in the 1-1 away derby draw against Bolton Wanderers.
His first season ended with an overall 29 appearances in league and cup competitions.
The 2011/2012 season saw Stam make another 20 appearances for the club, with his last appearances coming in February 2012 in the 1-1 draw with Everton.
The Dutchman made one assist this season as he set up Mohamed Diame’s goal in the 2-1 home defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
