Young, tall, commanding, centre-half in his second year with Latics who joined from UD Las Palmas.
Roman joined the club shortly after Roberto Martinez returned to the club as manager, but was extremely unlucky with injuries during his first year.
The Spaniard had begun to reach full fitness for the start of the 09/10 season and has forced his way into Martinez's plans, featuring heavily in pre-season and was on the substitutes bench for the start of Latics' Barclays Premier League campaign.
