Huyton-born Joe was born in the same district of Liverpool as Steven Gerrard. He played for the same club as a boy, he's a central midfielder - are you begining to see a pattern?
"From the earlist age," says the young professional, "I've looked up to him. He's been a role model for me, and for so many other Huyton lads like me.
From the age of 8, Joe joined Whiston Boys Club, whose most famous old boy is of course Gerrard, and he says even as a young boy, Gerrard was an example to others around him.
Although his family are Liverpool FC mad, Joe's mind is fully focussed on his job at Latics, a club that has come to mean as much to him as his beloved Reds.
Joe was given the squad number 40 and was handed a place on the bench for the FA Cup tie at White Hart Lane in January and then again in the league at Stamford Bridge later in the season.
