Signed from Segunda Liga side Rayo Vallecano, Amaya had spent his entire career at the Madrid-based club, and arrived at Wigan Athletic in a deal that also included the signing of team-mate Mohamed Diame.
At 6ft 3in Amaya's ability in the air, both from a defensive and offensive point of view, will gives the side different dimensions all over the pitch.
