The immediate confusion arriving with Zaki was the spelling of his surname - Zaky or Zaki. However the passport spelling is Zaki - thus the reason for the spelling hereon in.
Zaki started his career at Al-Mansoura Football Club in Egypt before moving to ENPPI in the 2003-2004 season.
At ENPPI, he was the top scorer in the league for the 2004/2005 season and helped the club win its first trophy, the 2005 Egyptian Cup, as well as being runners-up in the Egyptian Premier League, their best position ever.
After impressing in the 2006 African Nations Cup, Zaky caught the attention of many clubs, such as El Zamalek and Al Ahly from Egypt, Al-Ain FC from the UAE, and French team Nantes.
He finally decided to play for Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow, who signed him for a reported $2 million. However, he did not play a single match for Lokomotiv.
In 2006 Zaky moved back to Egypt to play for El Zamalek, where he became their most important goalscorer.
In the 2008 African Cup of Nations Zaki was named in the select XI ahead of Chelsea's Didier Drogba.
Amr has quickly established himself as a fans favourite at the JJB Stadium and has also introduced himself to the Premier League, and the wider world, with a bang.
Arriving in Wigan after a protracted transfer that took virtually the entire summer to complete, he began by impressing before the season even began, scoring the winner in the last minute of a friendly match at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wedensday, Latics winning 3-2.
The question on everyone's lips was could he do it at Premier League level? It didn't take long to discover the answer with Zaki scoring a consolation goal for Latics in the opening day defeat to West Ham, and then going on to notch up eight Premier League goals in his his first twelve games. The run of scoring put him top of the Premier League goal scoring table at the time, and speculation began to bubble about his future.
The pick of the goals, and a sign of the confidence the Egyptian international posesses, was the goal that came at Anfield. He had already put Latics ahead but then struck a sweet overhead kick from Antonio Valencia's cross just before half-time - what's more - it was in front of the Kop.
While his long term future may be away from Wigan, he remains here until the end of the season on loan at least and Wigan supporters will hope beyond. Wherever his future lies, Zaki remains the undisputed discovery of the season and credit must go to Wigan's scouting system with the bar being been risen with regard to the calibre of player the Club can attract.
