The Ghana international joined Latics as a free agent following his release from Birmingham City last season and put pen to paper on a three-year deal.
Kingson has played the majority of his career in Turkish football, before he joined up with Bruce at Birmingham last year.
He appeared in the 2006 World Cup in Germany for his nation as well as excelling in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
He said: "Like any player, I just want to play. It's terrific to be back in England. Steve Bruce is a great manager and I'm looking forward to my career at Wigan.
"I know there are two good goalkeepers here already and all I can do is fight for my place and see where that takes me."
Latics manager Steve Bruce says he is delighted to have secured his services.
"He's a really decent keeper, you don't play nearly 60 times for one of the top 20 nations in the world without having something about you and I think he'll add real competition to the squad here."
Kingson is the brother of Laryea Kingston, who is also a member of the Ghana national team. Laryea Kingston plays for Heart of Midlothian F.C. in the Scottish Premier League.
On Sunday 21st September Richard Kingson took his place on the bench at White Hart Lane, as Midfielder Michael Brown had to return home. The move meant that Steve Bruce had two goalkeepers on the bench. It was then at White Hart Lane where he made his full first team debut in the third round of the FA Cup, Wigan lost 3-1.
