The 31-year-old Senegalese international signed a three year contract with Latics after joining from Championship club Wolverhampton for a fee of £3million in the summer of 2005.
Camara began his career in France with Strasbourg, before having spells with Grashoppers Zurich where he won the Swiss league. He then returned to France in 2001 with Sedan for two years before arriving in the Premiership with Wolves for £1.5million.
As the Molineaux club fought against the drop in the 2003/04 season, Camara initially struggled to score, but then struck six goals in seven appearances towards the end of that campaign.
Once the Midlands club were relegated, the striker did not want to play below the top flight, and was then sent on-loan to Celtic for six months before going on another loan spell with Southampton in January 2005, who themselves were also relegated at the end of last season.
His pace, power and trickery terrorised defences, in particular against Charlton Athletic when he netted a hat-trick in November 2005.
Camara left the JJB on-loan to West Ham for the 2007/08 season but returned to fight for his place for the start of the 2008/09 season under Steve Bruce. So far his chances have been limited in the side. On a number of occasions Camara has said that he wants to do well in a Wigan shirt and owes the fans for their support.
Camara netted Wigan's only goal in a vital 1-0 win over Everton in November after coming on as a half time substitute, his first Premier League goal for Wigan since scoring from the penalty spot at Middlesbrough in December 2006 almost two years earlier.
