REDDY AND WILLING

Posted on: Thu 02 Sep 2010

Reserve skipper Daniel Redmond on Liverpool performance and season ahead

Daniel Redmond gave his thoughts on the Reserves' season opener against Liverpool on Wednesday, happy with the team's performance and glad to be back in action after the Summer-break.

Redmond was handed the captain's armband for the afternoon, putting in a solid performance and hoping for the chance to lead the team out again in the future;

"Great to get the captain's armband and hopefully I can keep hold of it," said Redmond.

"I thought we did alright to be fair overall. We were under pressure towards the last ten minutes or so but I think throughout the game we defended well and kept our shape.

"We could have done with a goal going forward which would probably been enough to clinch a win.

"We had a few chances either side of the break but when you get them you have to hit the back the net. That's the aim of the game and sometimes chances are few and far between, so you have to take them.

"After the Summer break the boys just wanted to get playing again and do their best for the team.

"We dug-in and worked together as a team, just we did towards the end of last season. Now we need to keep that going so that we can progress as a team as the season grows. Especially when the manager's there watching you want to do your best and I think we gave a good account of ourselves."

The new-look league system this season sees a host of new opponents such as Arsenal and Chelsea, and Redmond believes the increased competition will help to bring the best out of the players;

He said; "I think the quality of the league has gone up this season with teams like Arsenal and Chelsea coming into the fold.

"As a kid these are the teams you dream of playing, and now we've got the chance to prove ourselves against them."
