'WE HAD A POINT TO PROVE' - BOYCE

Defender proud of team performance and delighted to get win for fans

Emmerson Boyce explained that with many people predicting another defeat at White Hart Lane on Saturday, he and the rest of the team had a point to prove in game - one which was well made.

A fine team performance limited Spurs to few chances and inspired confidence within the team to grab a winner late on, and Boyce praised the efforts of his colleagues, dedicating the win to the fans in the process;

"We had a point to prove and the result was more about the fans than it was for us," said Boyce.

"They had to suffer just like us here last season, but thankfully on Saturday we were able to keep a clean-sheet and get the rewards up-front.

"We felt we deserved the victory. It was a hard-working performance and I think we could have nicked a couple more towards the end.

"All in all we're proud of ourselves. Last year it was hard to forget the result we had at White Hart Lane, and so to come back and get three points as well as not conceding any goals is a massive boost for us.

"Everyone expected us to go to Spurs and get hammered after the start to the league campaign we've had.

"With people thinking Spurs would come away with three points we had a point to prove ourselves. We put the work in, played for one another and got the result we deserved."

Roberto Martinez had made four changes from the mid-week Carling Cup win against Hartlepool, including a start for Ali Al Habsi in goal, and the full-back feels he took his opportunity well;

He said; "Ali had a point to prove as well, and had earned a chance after playing well against Hartlepool.

"Everyone knows how good 'Kirky' is, so Ali had to perform well. But he kept them (Tottenham) out, made some fantastic saves and now the manager has got some difficult decisions to make.

"Ronnie, another right-back, was put in-front of me for the game and we did well together on that right-side.

"We felt as though we limited them to very little down their left-wing but all over the pitch everyone did a job and gave a great performance."
