SPAIN PAIN FOR FIG

Posted on: Mon 21 Jun 2010

Honduras fall to second defeat in South Africa

Maynor Figueroa was again in action for Honduras on Monday evening in Johannesburg, but could not prevent a 2-0 defeat to European Championship Holders Spain.

A David Villa brace decided the game; the striker finishing off a stunning solo effort after 18 minutes, and wrapping things up shortly after half-time with a strike from the edge of the area.

It was a tough night for Figueroa who battled well at centre-half against Villa and Fernando Torres, trying desperately to inspire his side towards their first points of the World Cup.

However, in the end, the Spanish were just too strong, and to Figueroa's credit the score-line could have been higher were it not for some organised and solid defending from the Honduran back-line.

Honduras' final group-game is against Switzerland on Friday at 7.00pm, a game they must win to hold any hope of progressing to the final 16.
