ARE THEY GHANA QUALIFY?

Latics 'keeper takes step closer to last 16 in World Cup

Richard Kingson's Ghana side have kept themselves in with a real chance of progressing into the last 16 of the World Cup, with a 1-1 draw against Australia in Rustenburg on Saturday afternoon that puts them top of Group D.

The Black Stars had to come from behind however when Kingson spilled a Mark Bresciano free-kick into the path of Brett Holman who slotted home to make it 1-0 to the Socceroos.

But little more than ten minutes later Ghana were level when a Harry Kewell hand-ball on the line resulted in a penalty, which was coolly converted by Asamoah Gyan.

Captaining his side Kingson redeemed himself late in the game after his earlier mistake, making a superb one-on-one save from Luke Wilkshere to keep the scores level and Ghana's chances of progressing beyond the group-stage alive.

With Serbia defeating Germany 1-0 in Group D's other game on Friday it leaves Ghana on top of their group with four points with one game remaining against the Germans on Wednesday at 7.30pm.
