Mike Pollitt signs new deal at the club

Wigan Athletic are delighted to announce that goalkeeper Mike Pollitt has agreed a new one year contract at the DW Stadium.

The 38 year old is the club's longest serving player, having become the first to sign following promotion to the Barclays Premier League in May 2005, and he has now played under four different managers at Latics.

He played six times for the club in all competitions last season, four times in the Barclays Premier League, and also received an award for Outstanding Contribution at the Player of The YearDinner earlier this month.

Manager Roberto Martinez said: "Mike is a terrific goalkeeper first and foremost with great experience and he continues to set standards on a daily basis that the younger players can follow.

"He has been patient during his time at the club but has never been anything less than totally professional and committed to the club.

"He is also an infectious character who is great to have around the dressing room and we are all delighted to have him back."

After signing his contract at the DW Stadium, Mike Pollitt said: "I'm delighted to be at the club for another year, my sixth at the club all together, it's a great feeling.

"I work hard every day, do the best I can and when I do get a game make sure I'm ready to try and impress the manager.

"Although he likes me round the place I think more importantly he rates me as a goalkeeper, and hopefully I can do as good a job next year as I have done in the past."

It is also expected that Pollitt, who has served 14 different clubs in a near 20 year career, will continue to help on the coaching side at the club;

"It's something I'm working towards. I've starting earning my badges and completed level three this year.

"Next year I'll move up a level and hopefully get the goalkeeping qualifications I need to become a coach, but for the time being I'm still concentrated on what I can still bring as a player.

"I've always said you're a long-time retired so as long as I can keep playing that will be my main aim."
