'WE CAN ALL BE VERY PROUD OF OURSELVES' - CALDWELL

Posted on: Tue 09 Mar 2010

Defender delighted with Liverpool win and now focused on Bolton challenge

Speaking after Monday night's superb victory over Liverpool Gary Caldwell explained that whilst the result was certainly one to remember the team must re-produce that performance again this weekend against Bolton Wanderers.

The centre-half again produced a fine display at the heart of defence, pairing up with Titus Bramble to form a solid back-line, and he believes the entire team should be very proud of themselves.

"It was a massive result and we can all be very proud of the way we performed and the work we put into the game," said Caldwell.

"But it's still just three points and there's a long way still to go. We have to remember what we did well tonight and continue that on Saturday against Bolton.

"We have to put a run together and have that attitude in every single game, hopefully now we can kick on from this and find some form.

"The game's gone now, it's in the past. It's the next game that matters and we'll use this week to recover and prepare ourselves for Bolton this Saturday."

Caldwell went on to praise Hugo Rodallega, whose performances over the last few weeks have had everything but a goal, something the Colombian rectified on the half-hour mark.

"It was a great goal at the right time, and a fantastic ball in from Boycey. Hugo's been knocking on the door for the past two weeks, getting closer each time and it was great to see him on the score-sheet again he really deserved it.

"I thought the strikers and midfielders absolutely worked their socks off and although they tired late on we defended as a group when we had to.

"Liverpool are a great side, full of world-class players who aren't going to throw the towel in. They gave it their all and we did well to see the game out.

"When we're defending we have to try and hit teams on the break with the pace that we have in the team.

"There were two or three occasions where we could have finished them off toward the end but thankfully Hugo's goal was enough to get the win.

The hot-topic surrounding the game was the newly-laid pitch at the DW Stadium and it was clear very early on that Roberto Martinez's men were enjoying moving the ball round and playing to their preferred style. For Caldwell it was great to be playing to the team's strength again and giving the fans plenty to cheer about.

He said: "The pitch was much better and I think that given a bit more time and allowing for the turf to knit together it'll improve even more. But you could definitely see a better game of football and more of a spectacle for the fans.

"We want to play that way and hopefully the fans enjoyed it."
