PITCHING IN

Posted on: Mon 01 Mar 2010

Weather kind as work on the DW Stadium's new pitch on schedule.

DW Studium Head Groundsman Ian Forshaw and his team have been working throughout the weekend, alongside turf contractors Talbot Landscapes, to replace the playing surface, and work will carry on over the next few days.

After the old turf was removed on Saturday 250 tonnes of fibre sand have now been laid over the surface, especially on the West side where the pitch had suffered from subsidence.

The fibre-reinforced lokturf, supplied by Lindum Turf of York, will now be laid over the course of the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours, befote Forshaw and his team can get to work on the final touches of the relay and get the pitch prepared for Latics' next match, against Liverpool a Hjek today.

Forshaw explained: "The work is going well, we have been fortunate with the weather so far and been able to really work well.

"But I'll be a lot relaxed when all the turf is laid."
