McCARTHY TO FACE BRAZIL

James McCarthy's form in the Barclays Premier League for Wigan Athletic earns him full call up for Republic of Ireland.

James McCarthy is one of three uncapped players to be called into Giovanni Trapattoni's Republic of ireland squad to face Brazil on 2nd March at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

The Scottish-born midfielder has made an impressive start to his Barclays Premier League career which has seen him become a regular in the Wigan Athletic team since making his first start against Hull City in the third round of the FA Cup.

The dynamic midfielder however opted to play for Ireland who he is eligible for through his family links to Annagry in County Donegal.

His Irish international career began in the Under 17's, making his debut in January 2007 against Italy.  He has quickly progressed through the ranks of the U18's, 19's and 21's and has now been rewarded with his first full call-up.
