ONE STEP AT A TIME

Moses delighted to make home debut and happy to make steady progression into first-team

After making his home debut against Bolton Wanderers on Wednesday night Victor Moses explained how he believes Roberto Martinez is giving him a steady introduction to the game in order to expose his full potential.

It is a reminder of how another young Latics star James McCarthy was nurtured into the first-team with spectacular results, and Moses is happy to go through the same lessons,

"All I've ever wanted to do is play football," said Moses.

"It's a big step up for me coming from the Championship to the Premier League and at the end of the day it's up to the gaffer when I play and what role I take up.

"I think he wants to just bring me into the team slowly, help me get used to the type of game in the Premier League and give me the best chance of performing well at this level.

"I'm made up to be here, everyone has welcomed me and been really friendly and now I just want to keep enjoying myself and enjoying my football.

"From my first day here I said how much I was looking forward to playing for Wigan Athletic, and I'm still excited about getting more game-time this season."

Despite the excitement around his introduction to the Bolton game, Moses couldn't find the all-important breakthrough for Latics, but is confident the team will pick up the points they need in the final third of the campaign.

"I think we did very well against Bolton and although we're a little disappointed not to get the win, we've still earned a point and we have to pick ourselves up for the Spurs game on Sunday now.

"We've got a great bunch of lads here and we want to start getting back to winning ways soon and start moving further up the table.

"The defence are looking really solid at the moment and keeping clean-sheets. We just have to start taking our chances up-front to make sure our performances all-round are rewarded with the points they deserve.

"We have to start getting three points from games, we can't keep just picking up draws because it's not enough. But I'm confident our game-plan and tactics will work out and get us the points we need."
