MOSES - THE FIRST INTERVIEW

Posted on: Thu 04 Feb 2010

New signing can't wait to prove himself in the Premier League

Victor Moses, Wigan Athletic's latest signing, cannot wait to pull on his number 11 shirt and showcase his talents on the biggest stage of them all.

Speaking exclusively to Latics Player, moments after sealing a move to the DW Stadium, Moses explained how excited he is at the challenge ahead and is confident of showing everyone what he's made of:
"I'm delighted to be here, having made the move up north from Crystal Palace," said Moses.

"Wigan Athletic is a great club and I'm looking forward to every game that I feature in.

"There was a lot of speculation about me going to a number of clubs, but from the first day when I met with the gaffer and Brenda (Spencer) they were very welcoming, made me feel very happy to be here and I just thought to myself, 'this is the right club for me'.

"As I said there were a number of clubs interested but I'm very happy to have chosen Wigan Athletic ahead of them.

"I've played a lot of football in the Championship and now I'm being given the chance to prove myself in the Premier League I know I'll have to step my game up and work a lot harder. I'm looking forward to every game and hopefully I can continue progressing as a player.

"Now that I'm in the Premier League hopefully I can prove to everyone that I am a good player, and yeah hopefully in the future a call-up to the England senior team might be on the cards. But I just want to take things one step at a time and focus on playing for Wigan Athletic for the time being."

Having said goodbye to Crystal Palace the 19-year-old England Under-19 striker admitted that whilst it was tough to leave Selhurst Park, one meeting with Roberto Martinez convinced him that this was the right move for him:

"The Palace fans were great and it is sad that I've left the club, but that's just part of life. It's a great club, unfortunately they've gone into administration now but hopefully they'll bounce back from it and get themselves back on their feet soon.

"So I would like say thank you to the Palace fans who were always very supportive of me and wish them all the best.

"From the first day I met the gaffer he gave me a lot of confidence that this was the right decision. He wants me to just go out on the pitch and enjoy myself, and that's a great thing to hear, and has given me plenty of confidence.

"I'm fit and I'm ready to play and I can't wait for my first chance."

The gaffer also offered up his thoughts on one of the U.K's most exciting young stars:

"There were many teams after Victor, he's one of the most talented young British players around right now and for him to decide to come to Wigan Athletic is fantastic and exciting news.

"He's been an important player at Championship level for Crystal Palace and even though he's still a young-man he's ready for the challenge of the Premier League.

"He's a player who relies on his ability to have an impact on the game. He has a fantastic change of pace, dangerous in one-on-one situations, very skilful and can find the back of the net with ease.

"We'll allow him time to settle into Wigan and slowly allow him to enjoy his football at Wigan Athletic."
