HEART-BREAK FOR KINGSON

Posted on: Sun 31 Jan 2010
Egypt win Africa Cup of Nations with late goal

Richard Kingson's dream of lifting the Africa Cup of Nations were dashed in Luanda as a late Nagy Gedo goal gave Egypt a 1-0 win and their third successive title.

Chances were few and far between as a typically tense final never really got going, with both sides not wanting to take a risk that might of back-fired.

Ghana had done brilliantly to combat the threat of the Pharaoh's front-line but with five minutes left a lovely one-two on the edge of the area gave Gedo, the tournament's leading scorer, the game's only real clear-cut opportunity and he took it superbly, curling it round the helpless Kingson.

It had already been a remarkable achievement by the Black Stars to get this far after a number of their key players dropped out through injury. But their valiant performances through the rounds, led bravely by captian Kingson had everyone believing they could go all the way.

Alas it wasn't to be and Kingson will return home heart-broken but proud of his achievements in Angola.
