Preview

Latics host and improving Everton side at the DW Stadium this Saturday as Roberto Martinez looks to bounce back from Wednesday night's disappointing result at Ewood Park.  Latics were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline in the reverse fixture at Goodison Park back in August, falling to to late goals, one a last minute penalty scored by former Latics left-back Leighton Baines.  Latics have games in hand on the teams around them but need to pick up some points to avoid the need for those games becoming a lifeline to get to safety.

Team News

Wigan Athletic could be without skipper Mario Melchiot again after he picked up what looked like a nasty neck injury in a collision with Morten Gamst Pedersen on Wednesday night, his chances are rated 50/50.  Chris Kirkland will also remain on the sidelines (collarbone).  Otherwise the manager has a healthy squad to choose from.

Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta has suffered a groin strain in training and could miss out.

Fit-again forward Victor Anichebe is again expected to be on the bench.

The Manager

The Wigan boss know that the Everton side is full of quality, and they they've begun to hit a bit of form.

"They've always had an outstanding squad and the quality of player has always been there. Probably early on in the season they couldn't find their rhythm but that's completely different now, I think their most important players are hitting form, they're on the back of some very good results, particularly at home, and we'll have to be at our best to compete and challenge them.

"When we're playing at home we feel confident and know that we can match anyone and it all makes for an exciting game."
