Wigan Athletic host Phil Brown's Hull City at the DW Stadium but for both sides, the question remains is the FA Cup a welcome break from the Premier League or a distraction that they could well do without.
The two sides last met in the competition when Latics were on their best ever run in the competition back in February 1987, it was the fifth round and Latics were 3-0 winners that day [watch]. Since then the clubs have met twice in the League cup, Latics were 2-0 winners in 2003 while more recently, Hull snatched a 1-0 win at Wigan in 2007.
Team News
Roberto Martinez has dropped several hints in recent weeks that he will be giving opportunities to some of the fringe players for this Third Round tie. Wigan goalkeeper Mike Pollitt could start if Chris Kirkland has not recovered from the illness that forced him off at halftime against Manchester United.
Jason Koumas, James McCarthy, Won-Hee Cho and Antonio Amaya all could be in contention for a starting place.
Hull are also expected to start several fringe players - with young duo Liam Cooper and Tom Cairney in the frame.
The game could also see former Latics players Caleb Folan and Kevin Kilbane make a starting return to the DW Stadium. Peter Halmosi and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink could also start.
The Manager
Despite the fact that the manager is likely to make changes, Roberto Martinez believes the FA Cup holds that little bit of magic.
"It's the best football competition in world football," said Martinez,
"And every time you're involved in this competition it's a special feeling.
"We're playing a home, which is all you can hope for - a home draw - and against Premier League oppostition in Hull City.
"It gives us an opportunity to see a couple of players that have been working extremely hard behind the scenes, they've been adapting to the new way of playing and the new environment and we're all looking to see how they adapt in the FA Cup."
