SCHARNS TARGETS MORE GOALS

Austrian keen to learn more about attacking role

After taking part in a unique personal training session this week Paul Scharner spoke to us about how he intends to get as much technical and fitness training in this seson as possible.

The Austrian, who we've play in a number of roles in his time at the club, seems to be favoured in the attacking midfielder role, and in order to give 100% to that position he called in his own personal coach in to help go over a few steps, as we discussed.

"My technical coach from Austria is an ex-player for a number of top Austrian teams. He helps take me through a number of technical roles and improve my understanding of this attacking role," said Scharner.

"My target for playing in this position is to score more goals.

"When you play in that position people watch you and want to know how many goals you're going to score. When you watch the top teams, their midfielders who play attackingly score a lot of goals, like Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.

"I think the gaffer was happy with my performance against Chelsea and hopefully he'll want to continue with me in that position."

Scharner went on to explain the key differences between an individual training sessions and group sessions, as well as commenting on the importance of a result against Hull City on Saturday.

He said; "When you do an individual session obviously the trainer can concentrate on you and give you direct advice on what to do and what not to do. You get more time to relax and let things settle in.

"Hopefully it will give me more of an edge going into games, and every second week he is going to come over and work with me, and at the end of those weeks I'm seeing a huge benefit.

"So every other week I'll got through a technical session like this one, and in between I'll do work with a conditioning coach to help bring my fitness up as well

"You get a lot of confidence from a result like that against a team like Chelsea.

"We have to keep focused on the Hull City game, it will be a completely different challenge and if we don't get anything from that game the win against Chelsea will mean nothing.

"I'll be giving everything against Hull and trying to get the whole squad focused on getting the win and carrying on the good work we've been doing."
