Keeper set to make 100th league appearance at Arsenal on Saturday

Chris Kirkland is set to make his 100th league appearance for Latics this weekend, as Wigan Athletic prepare to take on Arsenal at the Emirates, providing he plays of course.

Kirky has been a key member of the team since joining back in October 2006, and becomes only the second player to have achieved 100 league games along with Paul Scharner.

Preparing for Saturday's game he took the time to explain how delighted he was to have reached such a landmark:

He said: "I'm delighted to reaching my 100th appearance, over the past few seasons I've managed to play quite a few games and feature consistently, which hasn't always been the case. And to have reached such a milestone at Wigan Athletic is very special.

"I remember the first day I came here I didn't get clearance for a couple of days, and I was stuck in the canteen just waiting. When it did come through it was a great feeling and I've felt at home here ever since. Hopefully I can stay here for many more years."

Kirkland was in fine form again at the weekend, keeping a clean-sheet as Latics defeated West Ham, and he's hoping the team can use that performance to get a result at the Emirates:

"It was a good result against West Ham; that was a real pressure-game for us and it was important for us to get a win. We knew the two games following were going to be extremely hard and everyone was delighted to get the win.

"If the lads can repeat what they did against West Ham; stay strong at the back and do their stuff up-front, we could cause them a few problems.

"We've been unlucky down there over the last couple of seasons, and although people may say you're due a result, you have to make your own luck in this game, it won't just come to you.

"They got a good result the other night in the Champions League which will give them a lot of confidence for this one, and after being defeated in their last league game they'll certainly be raring to go.

"The gaffer has been building this weekend up all week, and stressing that every game is a cup-final really. Won't we don't want to do is un-do the good work we've done and make sure we make a good account of ourselves down there."
