Midfielder settling in nicely and delighted with West Ham win

In his first interview since signing for Wigan Athletic Jordi Gomez gave an update onn how he's settling into life at Latics and the Barclays Premier League.

Speaking after Saturday's win against West Ham, the Spaniard explained how the squad is moving in the right direction, gelling together nicely and looking forward to this weekend's trip to the Emirates.

"I'm enjoying my time at Wigan Athletic," said Gomez.

"I know I have to keep working hard to earn my place in team and I just want to keep enjoying my football. I'm plying in the role that I feel I'm strongest at and teaming up well with the players around me.

"We have a great team with great players and it's difficult to get into the starting eleven. Everyone knows they have to work hard to earn a place and that gives us some positive competition in the squad.

"Of course things take time when you have a new group of players, but step-by-step we're working towards reaching our full potential."

Gomez has featured in every one of Latics' league games so far this season, and believed that the win over the Hammers was no more than what the team deserved having been unlucky in previous weeks.

He said: "We started the season very well against Aston Villa, and then I think we were unlucky to get the results we did against Man Utd and Everton.

"But the important thing today is that we got the result we needed which will boost our confidence for the Arsenal game at the weekend.

"We gave a very good performance and played very well as a team. Overall I think we really deserved the win for the effort we put in.

"We have to now focus on going to Arsenal at the weekend and put in another good performance. They have a great team and it's a fantastic stadium, so we're all looking forward to going there and doing our best. I think the important thing is for us to go there and enjoy the experience."
