Gaffer assessing progress of Modeste M'bami

Wigan Athletic can confirm that Cameroon international midfielder Modeste M'bami is currently on trial with the club.

Currently out of contract the 26- year-old is a former player with French sides Sedan, Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille and featured in last season's UEFA Champions League with the latter.

On the international scene M'bami has accumulated 28 caps and scored 7 goals for the Indomitable Lions, and Roberto Martinez explains that his team will be assessing the player's development carefully:

"Modeste has a great pedigree and a great curriculum with top teams around the continent," said Martinez.

"He can control the tempo of the game with his ability and experience. He has a sharp brain, can see a pass quickly and can operate in a few positions around the midfield area. We'll be assessing him over the next week and see what happens."
