Preview

This is Latics' 50th North-West Barclays Premier League derby and Wigan Atheltic go to Goodison in search of their second league win of the season while Everton are still searching for their first. You have to go back to the 1990/91 season for when Everton last lost their opening three league games. Latics go into the the game looking to stem the tide of goals conceded, having conceded five against Manchester United last Saturday and four more in the Carling Cup at Blackpool, that's nine in a game and a half, if you keeping tally.

Head to head Latics have only won one of the last five meeting against Everton, the last a 1-0 home win in November '08 when Henri Camera got the winner. The corresponding fixture last season produce a 4-0 win for the Toffees.

The Manager

Speaking exclusively to Latics Player, the gaffer is expecting a tough encounter from David Moyes' team who, like so many of Latics' opponents, are on the back of a league defeat, and knows his side must be at their very best.

"We're capable of performing like we did at Aston Villa on a regular basis," said Martinez.

"There are many things we're starting to master and certain aspect of our game are very good. Obviously there are other areas that need improving but we certainly have the potential to do so. In time, we should be ready to put that kind of performance in regularly.

"Sunday's game, in one of the historic grounds in English football, is one to be excited about and one we're looking forward to.

"Everton will be a tough test. We'll need to be able to contain the way they play; they've got about two or three different threats, they're not one dimensional.
