There were contrasting fortunes for these two sides on the opening day. Wolves suffered a 2-0 home defeat to West Ham United while Latics pulled off a super win at Villa Park, earning the manager praise from the pundits for the manner in which the game was won.
The Latics are unbeaten against wolves in the league having won 2 and drawn 1, the last meeting being in January 2005 when Wigan won 2-0 in the Championship, Nathan Ellington getting both of the goals.
The Manager
Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez believes Tuesday's game will be tougher than the win at Villa.
"I can guarantee you that the game against Wolves is going to be harder than the game at Villa Park," said Martinez.
"They will come to the DW Stadium knowing exactly what to do, be very well organised and have nothing to lose. It'll be a completely different test and a different scenario to the one against Aston Villa.
"We need to be aware of that, everyone at the club does. Not just the players, the coaching but the fans as well, we're all in this together and we all need to encourage one another to produce the same kind of performance that will help get a similar result.
"They've made two or three excellent signings so it's not quite the same team I came up against last season with Swansea City, but I know the winning mentality will still be there and their achievements last season shows they work hard as a group, and they're going to provide tough opposition tonight."
