FULL TIME: Preston 1 Latics 4. It's the first win for Roberto Martinez and a well deserved one at that. Wigan are in the Premier League, Preston are in the Championship, but you could clearly tell that from this display. Around a 1000 travelling fans got a glipse of what Roberto's vision for Wigan is this season and will be extremely pleased with what they saw tonight. Full match report to follow shortly plus reaction from the manager on Latics World soon.
86mins: GOAL! Talk about the commentators curse. Latics faile to clear the ball and Neil Mellor pulls back what should only be a consolation. A bit sloppy that from Latics.
84mins: Preston happy to knock the ball around and Latics as equally happy to let them. When Latics get the ball they seem to be finding space very easily. This game was over three minutes into the second half when Michael Brown's goal made sure of the result.
86mins: Daniel de Ridder is coming back on for Gomez, the Spaniard must have picked up a knock in the clash with the Preston 'keeper a few minutes ago.
85mins: The attendance is announce as 3,645. A good 1000 of those in the Wigan end.
84mins: Another great chance for Jason Scotland after Michael Brown lays off a lovely ball from Scotland to strike straight at Lonergan.
82mins: Latics now piling on the pressure and the gap between the two levels of football beginning to show as Latics go close again with Rachid Bouaouzan having another good run into the Preston box.
78min: GOAL! 4-0 LATICS! Jason Scotland scores on his ebut for Latics! Michael Brown strikes from outside the area and the keeper can't hold onto it. Like any good striker Scotland pounces on the rebound and fires into the left hand corner.
68min: Lee Cattermole sets himself up from 30 yards and drills a shot wide of the right-hand post. Not a bad effort from the midfielder.
65min: Scotland puts Gomez through into the area but the Spaniard just can't reach the ball and pushes it wide.
63min: Pigeons have stayed away we're happy to report. Meanwhile Latics are just trying to adjust after making a number of changes at half-time, but still have control of the game. One man who is looking pretty sharp is Erik Edman, good to see him back in action after the injuries he's had.
58min: Jason Scotland looking as though he's not relying purely on strength and force but willing to get the ball down and move it round. Playing up front on his own it seems with a five-man midfield behind him.
48min: GOAL! 3-0 LATICS! Michael Brown's latches onto a squared ball from Jason Scotland to drill into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box. Smart finish and a neat set-up from Scotland, first touches in a Latics shirt have been good ones!
Second-half team looks like this: Kirkland; Melchiot, Boyce, Scharner, Edman; Bouaouzan, Brown, Cho, Cattermole, Gomez; Scotland
Few changes at halftime to inform you off: Rachid Bouaouzan, Michael Brown, Erik Edman, Won-Hee Cho, Paul Scharner and Jason Scotland come in for Charles N'Zogbia, Hendry Thomas, Daniel de Ridder, Hugo Rodallega, Maynor Figueora and Titus Bramble.
HALF-TIME AT DEEPDALE: Martinez's men have bossed this half, looking comfortable and controlling the pace of the game; speeding it up when necessary and calming it down at other times.
Charles N'Zogbia has been the man-of-the-half, creating chance after chance, showing a great touch and getting on the scoresheet as well.
What the defence have had to do they've done well, steering away any danger from the home side and blocking some dangerous efforts.
45+1min: Hendry Thomas sets himself up from around 30 yards out and thunders a shot low at Henderson who lets the ball run loose and out for a corner, nearly a blooper from the man between Preston's sticks, fierce shot from Thoms mind.
43min: Latics' substitutes are out behind Preston's goal warming out no doubt preparing for an introduction to the game after half-time, watch this space.
39min: GOAL! 2-0 LATICS! Fantastic individual effort from Charles N'Zogbia getting hold of the ball on the wing floating past a couple of challenges and firing low into the right hand corner! Brilliant effort!
36min: GOAL! 1-0 LATICS! N'Zogbia, Latics' dangerman, creates some space on the right-wing and lashes a ball into the area for the unmarked Hugo Rodallega to latch onto and head past Henderson for the opening goal. No more than Roberto Martinez's men deserve.
30min: Wigan Athletic have just slowed things down over ther last ten minutes. Keeping good possession and just trying to prise out Preston's defence and carve out an opportunity.
22min: With his back to goal N'Zogbia twists around full-back Eddie Nolan, down the right wing and squares for Rodallega who is just intercepted by the centre-half. Nice movement from the Frenchman who continues to cause problems.
18min: Preston asking a few questions of Latics' defence over the last five minutes. A couple of dangerous Wallace free-kicks have been well dealt with by the backline, and an excellent Lee Cattermole block on the edge of the area denies what could have been the opening goal.
14min: Ross Wallace's free-kick from the left wing is met by Stephen Elliott who glances it into the net ast Chris Kirkland. Thankfully the linesman had his flag up for offside. Biit of scare for Latics who have looked composed and confident so far.
10min: Lee Cattermole sprays a ball out to the left wing for N'Zogbia to latch onto. The Frenchman skips inside past one challenge and has a shot defelcted out for a corner. N'Zogbia's looking good on the ball early on, finding space and carving out some decent opportunities.
6min: Gomez picks up the ball 30 yards out square to goal, shifts onto his left foot and unleashes a ferocious shot heading for the top corner, had it not been for an excellent save from Henderson. He could be in for a busy night if the first five minutes are anything to go by.
1min: Great early pressure from Latics. Rodallega pouncing on some slack defending and feeding the ball out to N'Zogbia The Frenchman cuts inside and feeds the charging Jordi Gomez whose touch just lets him down and is saved by Preston keeper Wayne Henderson.
Latics' travelling crowd has increased dramatically over the last ten minutes, looking well over the 1000 mark, and making themselves well heard.
Trouble early on as two stray pigeons threaten to perch themselves high up in the Tom Finney Stand directly above the backroom staff, updates on that saga to continue!
A bit of shooting practice taking place as the players warm-up. Mike Pollitt looking nice and sharp, just Hugo Rodallega and Charles N'Zogbia fire two rockets past him! Must to the enjoyment of the 300 or so travelling fans behind the goal!
