Club offers contracts to young professionals
Wigan Athletic are delighted to announce that seven new professional contracts have been issued for the coming season, beginning from today, July 1.
Heading the list in terms of age is Poland Under 21 striker TOMASZ CYWKA, who endured a nightmare end to last season through injury after shining for the reserves and earning a chance in the first team in the FA Cup against Tottenham Hotspur.
Cywka, who turned 21 last Saturday, says his ambition this season is to keep progressing and make a push for the first team.
His compatriot , TOMASZ KUPISZ, 19, will also be staying at the club after making his first team debut in the Carling Cup last season against
Liverpudlian midfielder JOE HOLT, 19, and 18 year-old striker CALLUM McMANAMAN, who made his Barclays Premier League debut in the final game of last season against Portsmouth, have also both earned their chance after a terrific season in the reserves.
Defenders JORDAN MUSTOE, NICK MEACE and DANIEL REDMOND, all 18, have been offered a year in which to prove themselves at the club.
New Latics manager Roberto Martinez said: "Everyone starts with a clean slate as far as I am concerned.
"Young players are the lifeblood of any club and this is a terrific opportunity for these boys to make an impression on me and my staff.
"The hard work starts here, they have earned their chance by working hard already, but now they have to keep progressing and move on to the next level.
