Defender says team need to regain spirit from earlier in season

Emmerson Boyce had condemned Wigan's recent drop in standards and explains that the side need to start performing like they did earlier in the season if they are going to finish the year on a high:

"The goals we're conceding are too soft, and we're disappointed with that," said Boyce.

" The goals scored against us by Everton and Arsenal were poor goals to let in, and today Blackburn have scored from two set-pieces, and it's not like us.

"Earlier in the season we were competing really well, looking strong and being hard to break down. We seem to have lost that lately and Saturday's game is a chance to put that right.

"Bolton is going to be a similar game to today's and of course be very physical, so we've got to get ready for it and be prepared to start grinding out the results again.

"We've had such a good season and we don't want to fizzle out now. If we don't end up in the top-ten people will say it's another average season, and it's frustrating after a good year to be outside of the top half of the table."

Boyce went on to say that although the result against Blackburn wasn't ideal, the team do still have the desire to push themselves for the remainder of the season:

"We were very frustrated by the fact that we didn't take our chances but credit to their 'keeper because he's made some great saves and I think on another day they would have gone in.

"As a team we're not doing what we're good at and the results are hurting us. We're conceding too many goals so we've got to start getting some clean sheets and grinding out results.

"We want to finish as high as we can and aim for a top-ten finish. Maybe European qualification is a bit too far now but we'll keep going to see what we can achieve. It's going to be a difficult run-in now until the last game but hopefully we can do it."
