Midfielder back to make sure it's a season to remember

By Paul Chialton

Wigan's 1-0 defeat to West Ham back in March may seem like a long time ago for most Latics fans but for one player it seems a lifetime ago.

Lee Cattermole, if selected,  returns from his four-match suspension this weekend against Blackburn following his dismissal in the above mentioned game and is eager to put the frustration of the last seven weeks behind him:

"The first couple of weeks off I found alright," said Cattermole.

"But when I went to watch the Everton game at Goodison Park I found it really frustrating that I wasn't out there.

"It was hard not be able to help the lads that day and the gaffer saw that it got me down and gave me a few days off to get myself right again.

"I missed the Arsenal game and it actually did me good not to be there watching.

"I enjoy watching the lads but it's frustrating as a player not to be able to get out there and help.

"It's about seven weeks that I've not played for Wigan because of the way our fixture list has panned out and it's certainly been a long time waiting for me.

"The positive thing is I obviously feel fresh and ready to go. We have six games left and everyone at the club is looking for a big finish."

The inspirational midfielder has sent out a rallying call upon his return to action to not let this season's efforts go to waste and that the squad need to keep going if they are to make an already superb season a memorable one:

"A lot of people have been cancelling out claims for European qualification but I don't see why we can't push on and claim it ourselves.

"We've had a great season so far and as long as we finish it right we'll end up in the top half of the table.

"We've worked too hard to get where we are now to let it fizzle out and finish in the bottom half of the table. We've got to kick on and win the games we believe are winnable to finish as high as we can.

"It's easy for us to sit back and relax and slip into holiday-mode but the gaffer won't let that happen to us and we've got to finish strong and make it a season to remember."
