WATSON READY TO TAKE HIS CHANCE

Midfielder expecting big test against Hull

It's not been easy for Wigan's new recruits since their arrival in January.

Having to replace the likes of Wilson Palacios and Emile Heskey is a big enough task without having to sustain the club's bid for survival.

But after last week's excellent win against Sunderland goal scorer Ben Watson explained how determined he is to take his chance, filling in for the suspended Lee Cattermole:

"It was great to get my first goal so soon for the club after just my second start.

"Obviously the main goal was the three points and it was one of the biggest games of our season. It let us open up a gap between us and the relegation zone, and if we can get a result on Sunday it will help us further to safety.

"It's never nice to see someone miss out through suspension and Lee (Cattermole) is out for four games now.

"But at the same time it's my chance to show the gaffer what I can do for the club.

"One thing I have noticed since my arrival here is the difference in training. It's certainly of a higher tempo and you can see the players give it a god blast and put a lot in to it.

"The biggest difference for me here at Wigan is the difference in quality. People say it's a big step up from the Championship and it's certainly bringing out the better player me."

Watson realises there is little time to adapt to his new surroundings and whilst he is settling in well he understands what needs to be done between now and the end of the season:

"The Hull game is huge for us because after that we're facing the likes of Everton, Arsenal and Man Utd, and with no disrespect we're more likely to get points from the likes of Sunderland and Hull than we are against the other sides.

"I expect Hull to come out all guns blazing, they're in a dogfight in the league and it's not going to be an easy game.

"We're not just going to turn up and beat them, it's going to be another tough game for us. Both sides need the points so it should make for a good game."
