The midfielder came off the bench in both of Latics' recent trips to Manchester and made a positive impact in both games. After the defeat to Man City he explained how his versatility and style of play has shown he's ready to break into the starting line-up:

"
Like Antonio (Valencia) I'm the type of player who will take people on and I've told the gaffer many times that I'm comfortable on the left as well as the right.

"I got a few more minutes against City than in the last few weeks so I had more time and space to show myself.

"I came in against Man Utd for the last 10 minutes on the left and I think I've shown now I can play that role."

The team now have a ten day rest before the visit of Liverpool to the JJB and whilst the Dutchman is eager to keep playing, he admits the rest will be good for the team after a energy-sapping performance at Eastlands on Saturday:

"I think we outplayed City in the second half and there's a lot of positives to take from the game.

"We created many chances, one big one of course which we have to look at way we didn't put away, but I still think we showed we're a very good team.

"
We're in this position in the league because of the way we play, and we've shown in the second half that we are as good as any team.

"
The break we have nowis good for those who have been playing a lot in the last few weeks. They can rest and re-charge for the next game against Liverpool.".
