Defender delighted to be back and ready to play

After nine months on the sidelines through injury you can forgive Erik Edman for using the old cliché of feeling like a 'new signing' for the club.
The Swede damaged the cruciate ligaments in his knee against Blackburn in March of last year after just five appearances for the club, and whilst the road to recovery has been a long one the defender is now focused on working hard to win back his place in the team:
"I feel as though I'm a new signing having not played for so long.
"I felt great after playing two full games for the reserves recently and although this wasn't a massive test for my knee it held up fine and my fitness is great at the moment. I'm really looking forward to the future and the upcoming games.
"The team have been doing great and Maynor (Figueroa) has been playing well at left-back so it's going to be difficult to get back in the team, but the only thing I can do is try my best and try to make it hard for the manager not to pick me."

EDMAN SPEAKS: Talking to Latics World.
Although the FA Cup tie against Tottenham didn't go according to plan, Edman admitted that on a personal level he was happy to be back playing football and is looking forward to helping the team this season:
"I said a couple of months ago that this was the game I was really looking forward to, and getting a few minutes towards the end was fantastic for me.
"I'm really grateful to the gaffer and Eric Black for getting me on. I saw the clock counting down and thought my chance would pass by but in the end I got the chance which was great.
"I was disappointed we lost 3-1, but we have to look forward now. We've got the league to focus on and it can be a good thing to have one goal to concentrate on."
