Club announce Honduras international Maynor Figueroa has agreed permanent deal

Wigan Athletic are delighted to announce that Honduran international left back Maynor Figueroa has signed a three and a half year deal with the club.

The 25 year-old has spent the last 12 months at Latics on loan from Deportivo Olimpia, based in the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa. A fee has now been agreed between the two clubs and Figueroa himself has shaken on a deal that will keep him at the JJB Stadium until 2012.

Having arrived on trial last December, he signed on loan in January 2008, and made his full debut in the final match of last season against Manchester United.

He has since started every league game, making him the only ever-present in the Barclays Premier League for Latics this season.

Steve Bruce said: "It's always hard when you come into a foreign country when you don't know anybody and you can't speak the language but from day one I've been impressed with Maynor's attitude and his professionalism.

"He has done well for us this season and is now getting used to the rigours of the Premier League. I think he can go on to have a great career with us. He's strong, quick and powerful and I think the best is yet to come from him."

Figueroa said: "To play in the English Premier League has always been a dream for me and I am really happy that Wigan have offered me the chance to stay here.

"I have had to take every stage as it comes this last 12 months but thankfully it has gone OK for me and now I look forward to being a Wigan player for the next few seasons.

"I want to thank Steve Bruce for having faith in me and I hope I can repay him by serving the club to the best of my abilities during my time here."
