Latics Austrian defender Paul Scharner is set to return from the international wilderness after winning his first call up in some two years.

Karel Bruckner's original squad did not include Scharner, but an injury to midfielder Rene Aufhauser, means the 28-year-old now gets the now.

Shcharner had quit international football back in 2006 after critiscising then coach Josef Hickersberger.

Should Scharner be selected to play against Italy on Wedensday night, it will be Scharner's 13th international cap.
