Full Time - West Ham 2 Latics 1 - It was a gallant 2nd half effort from the Latics but couldn't find a way through for the equaliser.  Two Dean Ashton goals on 3 and 10 minutes did the damage in a first half were Latics were poor and offered little but the second half was a different story.  Chance after chance fell to Zaki after he had pulled one back on 47 minutes, getting on the end of an Emile Heskey flick on from Figueroa's throw.  But the equaliser evaded Latics as yet again they fail to win on the opening day.

90+2mins - After some neat passing play, Latics get the cross in through de Ridder and Zaki again with the opportunity to pull Latics level fires high.

90+1mins - Wets Ham are in no rush now.

90mins - That's the end of the 90 minutes.  But there's 3 more to play

88mins - A long throw from Figueroa is knock down by Heskey to the waiting right foot of Jason Koumas who strikes just high and wide.

88mins - Zaki gets on the end of a Daniel de Ridder corner but the glancing header is wide.

84mins - Sibierski makes an appearance for Cattermole.

82mins - Koumas and de Ridder replace Schanrer and Melchiot and go to either wing with Kapo and Valencia dropping back to ful back roles.

75mins - Another great effort from Palacious after good interplay between Melchiot and Valencia on the right.  Wilson's shot forcing a great finger tip save form Green.

73mins - West Ham, having already just brought on Sears and Mullins now have Carlton Cole flat out after he jumped up and over Scharner and landed awkwardly.

67mins - West Ham win a free kick and the ironic West Ham cheers ring around Upton Park, the the ironic cheers come the Latics fans as Ashton strikes the ball 10 yards over the bar.

66mins - Figueroa's throw and Scharner's flick-on gives Zaki another glorious left foot chance but he blazes over.

65mins - The West Ham fans think that the referee should be wearing a Latics shirt as he let's an accidental hand-ball from Cattermole go unpunished.  Latics looking far more dangerous now as Olivier Kapo's left foot cross finds the head of Zaki who had far more time than he thought as he heads wide.

59mins - Again Palalcios creates an opening, taking the ball of Noble, feeds in Valencia who gets it back to Palacios who shoots high.

58mins - Wilson steals the ball in midfield and goes on a solo run towards the West Ham goal, but can't quite find room to get the ball across to Heskey before the challenge comes in and West Ham get the goal kick.

56mins - Faubert hits a 20 yard left foot strike - but it's straight into Kirkland's chest.

55mins - Latics are looking like a different side this half and as we speak Maynor Figuera again unleashes a left foot 20 yard strike that is just over.  You get the feeling it's just a matter of time before one of those finds the mark.

48mins - Zaki creates an opening from nothing and is hacked down by Davenport on the edge of the box who gets a yellow.  Kapo's free-kick is delfected for a Latics corner - this is better now.

47mins - GOAL FOR LATICS A long throw from Maynor Figueroa finds the head of Heskey who flicks on and Amr Zaki on his Premier League debut unleashes a left-foot volley which Green gets nowhere near.

46 mins - We're underway again - no changes for either side.

Latics emerge for the second half behind West Ham, they have 45 minutes to try to prevent another opening day defeat.  Their last win on the opening day came against Cheltenham in the 100 point season.

Haltime - West Ham 2 Latics 0 - It's and extremely disappointing first half to the first game of the season for Latics. Steve Bruce's side failed to create much going forward while West Ham looked threatening on each occasion they attacked the Latics goal.  There' a lot for Bruce to discuss with his side during the half-time break.

45+1mins - The crowd seem to win West Ham a free kick in a dangerous position.  Faubert's back post cross finds the head of Davenport who is denied brilliantly by Kirkland.  The resulting corner comes to nothing.

44mins - Latics seem to be struggling find their structure and shape in this first half and West Ham look thretening each time they come forward.  Maynor Figueroa breaks down another West Ham attack but his ball to Kapo goes astray for a West Ham throw.

38mins - Scott Parker is booked, it would seem on the new rules, after he showed his disappointment to the linesman after he awards Wilson Palacios a free kick.

33mins - It just isn't going Latics way this afternoon.  Melchiot's mis-control concedes a throw in and that just about sums the away side's afternoon up.

31mins - Etherington is still receiving treatment off the pitch but is just about to come back on.

29mins - We'll have a short break here as Etherington and Noble receive treatment after they clash accidentally. 

27mins - Latics get a free-kick as Wilson Palacios is brought down 35 yards out.  Palacious takes the free kick which is cleared only as far a Figueroa who unleashes another left foot effort high.

26mins - While Latics debate the free kick, West Ham take it quickly and Carlton Cole is denied by Kirland who gathers at his near post, seemingly with his feet first.

23mins - Latics find themselves in deep trouble again as Chris Kirkland's short throw out is intercepted but Emmerson Boyce's steals the ball back from Ashton and clears the Latics lines.

20mins - A telling cross from Figueroa is cut out by Davenport, Latics corner.  Green comfortably collects Valencia's corner

19mins - Another good chance for Latics as Palacios puts Zaki through wide left, he tries to find the supporting Cattermole but the ball is cut out for a Latics corner which West Ham clear.

15mins - A Valencia corner gives West Ham trouble, Zaki gets on the end of the corner, he heads to beneath the bar but West Ham clear - but only as far as Figueroa who strikes the ball with his left foot - but it's just over.

14 mins - Another corner for West Ham won by Etherington, Latics have to deal with this one, Kirland tips over bar from Carlton Cole. 

13mins - Latics, trying to get a foot-hold in the game, cut out the West Ham attack but Kapo then tries a speculative shot,but it goes wide and right.

10mins - GOAL FOR WEST HAM - A Faubert corner isn't dealt with by Latics, Dean Ashton finds himself 2 yards out with the ball - and the simplest tap-in he'll get all season

6mins - Great chance for Amr Zaki after good work on the left from Olivier Kapo who finds Zaki from the cut back cross, but Zaki's left foot shot is high.

3mins - GOAL FOR WEST HAM - West Ham work the ball down the right and Dean Ashton collects the ball on the edge of the box, turns Paul Scharner and strikes the ball into the roof of the net, Kirkland no chance.

1min - Foul by Dean Ashton on Paul Scharner. Direct free kick taken right-footed by Chris Kirkland  from own half, resulting in open play.

0mins - The Season is underway for Latics kicking from our left to right.
