90 mins - FC Utrecht 0 Latics 2 - A good pre-season work-out for Latics without the services of Amr Zaki and Antonio Valencia.  The game was in danger of boiling over late in the second half with Wilson Palacios finding his way in the referees book, Steve Bruce decided to replace him late on to avoid him missing the trip to West Ham through a necessary dismissal.  But the manager will be happy to have had a look at Kevin Kilbane who was worth his place on the left flank.  Killer broke his finger in training recently but didn't look of the pace at all.  Next up for Latics it's the season opener at Upton Park. 

80 mins - Latics get a free kick when Camara seemed to hit in the face.  Sibierski's free kick found Marlon kick at the far post, but it wass too high for him and he heads out for the goal kick.

77 mins - Antoine Sibierski's strike from the edge of the box hits the inside of the keepers right post and goes across the face of goal.

60 mins - GOAL FOR LATICS - Kevin Kilbane, at full stretch in the challenge, just about gets a touch to volley into the roof of the net from 6 yard. 

48 mins - Utrecht free-kick at the corner of the Latics box, taken by George, goes into the side netting but Pollitt had it covered.

45 mins - Both team ermerge for the second half unchanged.

Half Time - FC Utrecht 0 Wigan Athletic 1 - Latics deserve the lead at the break coming more into the game after Daniel De Ridders free-kick put Latics in front on 29 minutes.  de Ridder and Melchiot causing the Utrecht defence problems on a number of occasions combining well on the right wing.  Latics could have conceded just before the break when titus Bramble's ball across the face of goal was cut out, but Emmerson Boyce efficiently dealt with it.

33 min - A couple of quick corners for Latics as they seem to be coming into the game more since the goal.  Latics looking more dabnerous now.

29 mins - GOAL FOR LATICS - de Ridder wins the battle to take the free-kick and duly steps up to put the ball in the top left hand corner.

27 mins - From the resulting goal-kick, Pollit finds Palacios in space who is then hacked down 25 yards.  Palacios look ok and is back on his feet.

27 min - Figueroa picks up a booking for a foul, the resulting free kick is deflected onto the post to the right of Mike Pollit.

22mins - Latics get a free kick 35 yards out, Maynor Figueroa's left-foot puts it straight into the Utrecht wall.

19 mins - It looks like a precautionary change for Latics as Marlon King replaces Heskey, Alex Cribley and a bag of ice follow Heskey down the tunnel.

18 mins - Still no clear cut chances in this one, but utrecht on occasion have show the ability break quickly getting some deep crosses in, but nothing to trouble Mike Pollit.

12 mins - Latics having to deal with injuries to Maynor Figueroa and Kevin Kilbane within a minute of each other but both back on their feet after a visit from the magic sponge.

5 mins - A cat a mouse opening in Urecht neither side finding any threatening attack, both sides happy to keep the ball and wait for a opening.
