| HIBERNIAN.............. 0 (0) | LATICS................. 1 (0) |
| Zaki 69' |
Full time: Another decent work-out for Latics with the win sealed by a single Zaki goal on 69 minutes. Latics came under pressure several time from the Scottish Premier League outfit who have not won a sinlge pre-season game and start their campaign this Saturday against Kilmarnock. Steve Bruce will be please to see the gelling of the wingers and full-backs with Valencia, Kapo, Melchiot and Figueroa having outstading games and constantly a threat, particularly in that opening 20 minutes.
89mins: Nash gathers the ball nicely from a menacing thorugh ball from Hibs, Nash had a decent game tonight. The 4th official signal 2 extra minutes.
88mins: Hibs overplay an attack with a series of one-twos into the Latics box but when they finally decide to shoot the ball is hooked wide.
85mins: HIbs are really trying to get back into this game and it's shoot on site from a corner but Latics equal to Hibees attack.
81mins: Latics seem to have the game under control again, controlling the pace and starting to find some way through the Hibs back line, perhaps as a result of Hibs trying to chase the game a little.
79mins: King intercepts a sloppy pass from the Hibs defence he looks up and sees the keeper running back and had a go, but it hits the outside of the post.
75mins: Joel Thomas is getting booed by the Hibs fans for a challenge he made on Filipe Morais but to be honest, there didn't seem to be much in it and I'm not sure he warrants that.
70mins: The goal is Zaki's last touch of the game as he's replaced by trialist Joel Thomas.
69mins: GOAL FOR LATICS - Defence turned to attack and Latics are in front. Amr Zaki gets on the end of a Valencia cross from the left and, with the outside of his foot, finishes superbly. Credit to Antoine Sibierski who broke up the Hibs attack and got the ball out to Valencia.
67mins: Young French trialist Joel Thomas looks set to make an appearance, he's stripped off alongside Steve Bruce and ready to go. This youngster bagged two goals for the Latics reserve side at Southport last week.
66mins: Latics moving the ball arounf the back four looking to open up some space in midfield but not quite finding enough to put Hibs under the same sort of pressure they did in the first twenty minutes
63mins: Latics again under pressure and a sweet strike from John Rankin whizzes past Carlo Nash at full stretch but just wide of the target.
61mins: It's like Wigan North Western Station on the Hibs bench as four more players are getting ready to come on.
58mins: Sibierski is coming on to replace Michael Brown and looks like he will take up and attacking midfield road.
56mins: Another good chance for the Hibees as Filipe Morais finds himself with space in the box and blazes over when perhaps he should have put his side one up.
54mins: Hibs putting Latics under a bit of pressure here, getting the ball out wide right and the cross headed out for a Hibs corner by Montrose.
50mins: A bright start to the second half with two very pacey trialists coming on for Hibs but Latics still getting lots of the ball and finding good passes through to Marlon King and Amr Zaki. Daniel de Ridder also making an impact on the right - as we speak getting to the bi-line and crossing a meacing ball that doesn't find a Latics player.
46 mins: Plenty of changes at half time, King for Heskey, de Ridder for Kapo. de Ridder goes on the right and Antonio moves over to the left. And there's a straight swap with Montrose replacing Melchiot.

Half time: To quote the commentary team, if this were a boxing match it would have been stopped 20 minutes ago. But Hibs have managed to string a few decent moves together and trouble Latics on a couple of occasions, the best coming just before the break. Some good stuff from Latics, particularly the link-up between Figueroa and Kapo and Melchiot and Valencia on the other side. Zaki has also been the tenacious player we saw a Sheff Weds, trying to get on the end of everything.
43mins: Best chance of the game and the alarms bells are rining for Latics as Hibs manage to get the ball accross to Nish whose header finds Nish at Nash's near post. Nash is beaten but saved by the post.
41mins: Figueroa is having a superb game, he finds another telling pass to fellow countryman Palacious this time, but the defender cuts it out for a Latics corner.
36mins: Latics get a free kick for a foul on Figueroa when perhas Hibs could have had one for handball. Then, much to the irritation of the home fans the referee pulls Michael Brown back to take it from the right place. The home fans seem to be getting a little irritated and edgy by the minute.
30 mins: Kapo fouls 25 yards out direct in front of goal. The ball is placed for Steven Thicot who strikes the ball into the wall then gets a second attempt that is high and wide but the His fans appreciated that one.

24mins: Just as we say that, another good chance for Hibs, Latics defence fails to clear and leave Colin Nish just a yard out but overstreched and unable to reach the ball.
23mins: LAtics are completely dominating this one.
22mins: Hibs suprisingly have the ball in the net, some good one-twos result in the No. 10 Colin Nish through on goal, one on one with Nash, "Nish on Nash" you could say, but the linesman near side confirms that he is 3 yards offside.
20mins: Maynor Figueroa is rumoured to have a wicked left foot - we just saw how good it is - an awesome shot into the keepers chest but he spills it and Hanlon clears.
18mins: Latics piling on the pressure, Figueroa getting forward well puts a superb cross the back stick where Zaki was waiting but Hanlon deals with it well.
11mins: After good strong running from Heskey, Palacios finds Brown who puts Zaki through into the 6-yard box, but it's just a touch too heavy for the Egyptian who is beaten to the ball by keeper McNeil.
10mins: Hibs have a free kick in a dangerous position just 2 yards outside of the D. Fletcher's left-foot effort goes straight into the Latics wall.
7mins: Latics have a free kick, probably 10 yards outside the box 5 yards wide right of the goal. Palacios takes it but it's straight at the keeper.
5mins: Figueroa and Kapo link up well on the left, Maynor crosses and Zaki's close range header dealt with by the Hibs keeper. It's all Wigan so fr.
4mins: Zaki gets his first shot on target but the keeper is down quickly, a left-footed shot from the left edge of the 6-yard box.
3 mins: Melchiot already making a nuisance of himself on that right hand side linking up well with Antonio Valencia.
1mins: Latics immediately in with a chance Melchiot overlaps Valencia and crosses but the Hibs defender just gets a touch to take it off Heksey's head.
Latics emerge from the tunnel alongside Hibs, both sides in their familiar colours. Hibs the traditional emerald green and white Latics in the new 2008-09 home kit sporting the broad blue and white stripes. Latics will play away from the Wigan fans, from our right to left. And we're off.
Just a handful of Latics fans have made the trip to Easter Road this evening, including one who has brought an Ecuador flag, no doubt in support of Antonio Valencia who starts tonight.
