Amr Zaki (right) burst onto the Latics scene scoring a last minute winner against Sheffield Wednesday.

Picking up on Henri Camara's through ball into the area, the Egyptian found space on the right and slotted into the left corner.

Zaki showed plenty of Eastern promise with some good link-up play and the all-important winning goal, sending Latics fans home with a smile on their face.

Antonio Valencia's introduction to the game injected much needed pace and creativity, coming on as a substitute on the hour mark.

His penetrating runs and slick passing found holes in the Wednesday back-line and signalled a direct threat from Latics point of view.

In what was a tough test for Steve Bruce's men, pinned back twice after being in front, their quality prevailed and proved too much for the opposition.

Latics opener came on 15min when Daniel de Ridder's corner found Emile Heskey, whose goal-bound header took a slight deflection off Marlon King.

The lead was short lived as Jermaine Johnson provided Wednesday's response 2 minutes later, picking up a through-ball and passing two defenders to slot home past Carlo Nash.

Titus Bramble restored Latics lead on 32min in a carbon-copy of Heskey's goal, heading de Ridder's corner into the bottom left corner.

Wednesday got their second equaliser when Deon Burton converted a 53min penalty into the right corner, after Maynor Figueroa fouled Marcus Tudgay inside the area.

But it was left to Zaki to steal the show and provide a good result to the hard work put in by the team, putting them on a high ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Hibs.
