Olivier Kapo delighted to make his debut

Latics new boy Olivier Kapo said he was delighted to make his Latics debut in last night's pre-season defeat to German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kapo started on the bench for the game coming on after the hour mark and says it was good to get some time on the field.

"When you move clubs," he says, "you just want to get going straightaway, show your team mates what you can do and make an impression to the manager.

"But I know this was just a training game, and the main thing is to get the fitness levels high."

Kapo says he has been impressed with the professionalism of the squad.

"The dedication of the guys is excellent. Training has been intense but really fun and it is great to be teaming up with Steve Bruce and Eric Black again. They make a fantastic team.

"It has been OK for me because I already know a few people of course, and that makes you feel at home straight away.

"But everyone has been so friendly and welcoming. There is a fantastic team spirit here, that is so clear to see right away.

"Football is a bit like going into battle, you need to be able to trust the guys around you and all good teams have a great bond between the players. You need that so you can stick together through good times and bad times and from what I've seen so far, the spirit here is as good if not better than I've experienced in other clubs.

"My aim now is just to get settled off the field and then focus completely on my game and on keeping my place in the team."
