He will now travel with the rest of the squad to Latics' pre-season Austrian training camp and Steve Bruce is delighted to have netted his man.
"Yes, he's one I really wanted to get on board," said Bruce, "Olivier's a real fighter, but he has a touch of quality about him. He can play in a number of positions and having worked with him in the past I know what a good addition to our squad he will be.
"He has Premier League experience, which is important and I'm confident he will do well here"

Kapo, who has nine caps for France, was born in Ivory Coast and began his career in Auxerre in France, where he scored 19 goals in 99 starts.
He was picked up by Italian Juventus, and it was during this period he was loaned to Monaco in France and Levante in Spain, both times netting goals from midfield.
Last season he scored five times from 22 starts in a Birmingham shirt, including a goal on his Premier League debut against Chelsea on 12 August 2007 and two in the game against Latics at St Andrews.
He said: "It's fantastic to be signing for a club like Wigan. As soon as I spoke with Steve and he told me his plans for the next few years, I wanted to come.
"Steve is a fantastic manager and this club is going places. I really want to be playing for them now.
