PITCH BATTLE

Posted on: Mon 19 May 2008

Work commences on JJB Stadium Pitch

Work began at the JJB Stadium this weekend to replace the pitch which has had so much attention since the turn of the year.

Although, to see the condition of the pitch when Wigan Athletic played Manchester United last week, you'd be forgiven for thinking that no work was necessary largely due to the hard work of the ground staff.

But the work being carried out is a long term solution, not a short term fix, and the work involves digging down 8 inches beneath the surface to reach the root of the problem.

It was a much different looking JJB Stadium pitch this morning with the turf having been completely removed.

Work is expected to take around 6 weeks to complete after which time the playing surface of the JJB should be second to none.
