STAKES ARE HIGH - BRUCE

Posted on: Fri 25 Apr 2008

LATICS v READING
BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Sat 26 Apr., kick off 3pm

TICKETS AVAILABLE UNTIL KICK OFF

Steve Bruce is fully focussed on the visit of Reading to the JJB Stadium on Saturday.  But who could blame for having an eye elsewhere when the talk of managers playing under strength sides against teams who are looking to drag Latics back in to the dog fight at the bottom.

But, concentrating on Latics, the manager says these games aren't quite so clear cut as 'win and we're safe'.

"They're fighting for their lives," said Bruce. "These games are often harder - simply because of what's at stake.

"What we've done particularly well since the turn of the year is beat Bolton, Derby and Birmingham at home.

"Thankfully, we've managed to get a few results, but they have been close affairs which have been nip and tuck and very difficult, and I don't expect this to be any different."

Wigan are on their longest unbeaten run at the JJB since their arrival in the top flight, and approach this game having conceded only one goal since the visit of Everton on January 20, that was the opening Berbatov goal last weekend.

Reading, in contrast, have lost their last three, and are precariously perched at one place and one point above the trap door, as they vie for a third campaign of top-flight football in their history.
