BENT ON POMPEY DEFEAT
The Latics striker says Latics deserved at least a point.
Wigan lost 2-0 to Portsmouth on Saturday after Jermaine Defoe's brace meant Latics still have work to do to ensure the club is safe from relegation.
Marcus Bent told Wigan World subscribers that he felt the second half performance deserved at least a draw on the south coast.
"We knew they had a big game next week and we also knew that they have not played as well as they have done in the last couple of weeks, but they still showed they all had a good footballing mind and good finishing.
"But we did not play to our best in the first half, although in the second half we came out more and we made more chances for ourselves but we are disappointed because we felt we should have come away with something."
Ryan Taylor had a chance to level the scores in the second half but his penalty was saved by David James, but Bent tipped the former Tranmere to bounce back.
"It happens sometimes but we're only human. Ryan is a big enough character and a quality player and he will bounce back from that and he has his team mates who will pick him up again."
Latics are currently 16th in the Barclays Premier League and next weekends opponents Birmingham are just one point behind and Bent admitted it is a huge game in the waiting.
"Next week we have Birmingham which is a big massive game for us and we hope that two more wins will do it for us although we really felt we should have had a point this week. We need to get our confidence back to where it should be."
