Honduran international Wilson Palacios made his debut for the Latics in the 1-0 win over Derby County at Pride Park on Saturday, Wigan's first away win in the league this season. And he was delighted to have been in the team with an ankle injury keeping Ryan Taylor on the side lines.

"I had hoped I would be in the starting line up once all the paperwork was completed" said Palacios, who was speaking through an interpreter.

"I was also very pleased with the way I was accepted into the team by my team mates."

Wilson in action on his debut against Derby County"I thought I played good even though I don't know all the lads very well but I hope that I will become more effective as I get to know everyone better."

"I am determined to show what I can do and I hope to repay the managers faith in me."

The 23 year played on the left of midfield at the weekend, but Wilsons favoured position is in the centre of Midfield, as he explained.

"I like to play in the centre of midfield, in South America they call it Volente Number 5, which is like how Mascherano plays, that type of midfielder.

"To them the number five one of the most important positions on the field, he's an anchor man, like the connection between the defence and forwards."

Palacios currently speaks virtually no English but has plans to learn through a personal tutor. But it is quite apparent that he has already familiarised himself with one two British specialities declaring his favourite dish so far as Fish and Chips.
