Wigan Athletic confirm that Manager Chris Hutchings has parted company with the club with immediate effect

Chris Hutchings has made this personal statement to the supporters of Wigan Athletic:

"First and foremost I would like to put on record my thanks to you, the supporters of this fantastic club, for the tremendous backing you have given me and the team in my six and a half years here.

"I am immensely proud of what has been achieved at Wigan Athletic during my time here; two promotions, a cup final and three successive seasons so far in the top flight of English football, and hopefully many more in the future.

"It's a journey we have been on together since the summer of 2001 and can only be described as a real life football fairytale.

"When I was given the opportunity to manage this club I had no hesitation in taking on the challenge. I believe I have assembled an excellent bunch of players, a superb squad of professionals, and I still firmly believe that over time they will prove their worth and push this club to the next level.

"My only regret is that I will not be here to see that progression reach its summit.

"I would like to thank the players for their efforts and for being a great group of people to work with. To my staff, you have worked tirelessly for me and the good of this club; I appreciate all the help and support you have given me.

"Wigan Athletic will forever have a big place in my heart and I genuinely wish everyone associated with the place nothing but success in the future."
