Valencia shines but Ecuador go down

Latics flying Ecuadorian Antonio Valencia was in fine form for his country in the opening match of the Copa America last night, but was still not able to prevent being on the losing side.

Ecuador went down 3-2 to Chile, with Valencia scoring one, making another and narrowly missing a third.

Antonio latched onto a long ball to notch the opener on 16 minutes, and following Chili's equaliser, was involved with the second, his effort deflected into the net by Cristian Benitez. He also had another effort come back off the crossbar
